PUSHKAR - HISTORY
According to mythology, Pushkar, meaning a pond created by a flower, was created when Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, dropped a lotus on earth to celebrate his victory over a demon. The most sacred site on earth was reserved for his yajna.

After waiting endlessly for his consort Savitri to join him in the yajna, an Irritated Brahma married a milkmaid Gayatri, who performed the rituals along with him. An infuriated Savitri then cursed Brahma that the world would never remember him.

However, on pleas from other gods, she consorted to Pushkar being the only place where he would be worshipped. Hence, Pushkar has the only temple in India dedicated to Lord Brahma. This temple is the primary tourist attraction of Pushkar.
