Travel to Jantar Mantar

Travel to Jantar Mantar located in the pink city as you experience the splendor and royal charm of Rajasthan on your Rajputana experience tour. Built in 1728 by Sawai Jai Singh, Jantar Mantar is just opposite to the City Palace's entrance. Other observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh are located in the cities of Delhi, Varanasi and Ujjain.

Jantar Mantar derived its name from Yantra Mantra (Sanskrit words). The word 'Yantra' means instruments and 'Mantra' refers to formulae. This observatory comprises of various complex instruments that mark the movements of the Sun, Moon and other celestial bodies. Maharaja Jai Singh was a great astrological admirer. His desire to know about the universe and celestial bodies led to the construction of the observatories in different cities. It took around seven years of observation to construct Jaipur Hawa Mahal. Maharaja Jai Singh was not contented with the errors of brass and metal instruments. He revised the astronomical observations with reliable instruments.

This 18th century observatory comprises of heavy instruments to determine the movements of celestial bodies, including the Samrat Yantra, Ram Yantra, Jaiprakash Yantra and the Misra Yantra.

Standing tall as a symbol of the wisdom of the past, Hawa Mahal in Jaipur is functioning well. Without a tour to Hawa Mahal in Jaipur your Rajputana experience is incomplete. Today, Hawa Mahal is one of the major tourist attractions in Jaipur.
