Travel to Sikandara on the 13th day of your Rajputana
Experience Tour, and visit the tomb of India's one of
the most remarkable rulers Akbar. Mughal Emperor Akbar
the Great is famous in history not only for its glorious
achievements in the battlefield but also for his broad
based religious outlook, for his policy of Sulh-i-kul,
for his Din-i-Illahi, and for his benevolent acts as
Badshah of the mighty Mughal Empire.
Sikandara is famous for Akbar's tomb, which is located
in the tranquil surroundings of Sikandara, just 3 km
away from Agra.
Akbar planned his own mausoleum and began building
it during his lifetime, though he could not complete
it.
It was his son, the Mughal Emperor Jahangir, who completed
it in 1613.
The entrance of the tomb is decorated with marble
inlay work around the arch, and the inner surface of
the dome of the tomb is decorated with beautiful images
of flowers, geometric designs and Islamic calligraphy.
The tomb has three-storey-minarets on its corners.
These minarets are built in red sandstone with magnificent
in lay work of marble.
The beautiful red sandstone structure is surrounded
by chahar-bagh, a foursquare formal garden, a trend
also visible in several other Mughal buildings.
